Day 3 - Route 66 Day 1 Sunday 38.2 miles Bolingbrook IL

We started out with mass at St. John Vianney in Brookfield. Fr. Ken banged down a good sermon, especially at the end. He had been talking about Facebook and how people can contact old high school friends. He admitted that one of the guys that always did well was with out a job and you think he deserves that, he has always got everything. He then said he suspects that someone in his class is thinking, yes I see why he went into the priesthood, what girl would ever want to marry him? The congregation broke up.

On the way to Michelle’s we saw a gray C-5 corvette, first one since we left, of course it was 45 deg. Breakfast was ready when we arrived, basted eggs, fried hashbrowns and George’s – Nicollet MN – bacon, good smoke flavor. Great way to start the day!

We (Shirleen and also a Jerry account) were then set-up on Facebook. Now there is something else to remember or figure out. We then headed south to downtown Chicago, the start going west (East Adams St)

and end going east (East Jackson Blvd), of route 66. As one sees the map at the top of the page you can see the basic route. The numbers mean nothing to you but made it easy to figure out our mileage between major cities. We have no reservations along the way so therefore no known stops. It started to rain as we hit north Chicago until we parked at the AmericInn in Bolingbrook IL. We followed Rt66 thru town, some parts better to travel in than others.

As we drove down Ogden Ave. and saw the Castle Car Wash, down into Cicero to see Henry’s Drive In with its giant hot dog sign.

But we are headed to White Fence Farms to try their chicken at Romeoville. A neat place to see with the big red rooster. This place blew us away as it can seat 1,100 people and park 567 cars. The chicken is fresh pressure cooked and then flash fried to order, accompanied with baked potato with chicken gravy and my French fries. A half chicken 13.95$ with side orders of corn hush puppies, bean salad, coleslaw, pickled beets and cottage cheese. Red cab was a Woodbridge my white a Gabbiano pinot grigio.

Tomorrow is a new day - Jerr
