By now you know it is time for us to eat breakfast. We went back to Tracy’s Bar and Grill, which was the sight of Tom/Kitty and Cheryl went on their first anniversary. We were warned about portion size. Shirleen had eggs with hash browns – they are real thin slices with onions in them and fried just right, Kitty had eggs and bacon – all of which Tom almost ate, with cubed fried potatoes, he had eggs with cubes and a large slice of ham steak – half inch by six inches; I an omelet stuffed with spinach and Ortega chili’s – sautéed green chili’s. Forgot to take pictures, can you believe that?
To get an overview of LA and Long Beach they took us to Signal Hill. What an expansive view of all the surrounding area. To the right was LA with the Hollywood sign visible; across from us is downtown Long Beach; then the Oceanside of Long Beach with its oil stuff this hill is best known for its oil production as there is a well on the hill, container shipping and Catalina in the background.
As we were leaving the sight, I slipped down to take a picture of the signage. As I walked back there was a young man with his head stuck through the passenger window. His girl friend was waiting to the side so I knew it was nothing serious. As we were talking this young man recognized Tom’s voice and asked if he had been involved with soccer with his son and that his name was John. Turns out he was right and here it is 20 years later of so and he still recognize Tom. You could tell he was happy about the meeting; he had a great smile on his face. Turns out Tom and son Steven drove him home after practice and games.
We went home and his other two adult children came by for a visit with us, Valerie and Steven. It was a fun hour talking about family matters with them and us seniors. It was sure fun to visit with all of their children and grandchildren.
It is time to leave and head toward Palm Springs area at Rancho Mirage for the evening. I found our hotel the Hilton Garden Inn, as I took the hard way in, traveling I10 is no fun and little to see so took 111 thru the series’ of towns which make up Palm Springs. By the time we got there it was time again to eat, next door, is The River shopping center. We ate at Babe’s Bar-B-Que and Brewery.
After a glass of wine Shirleen had a half order of ribs with half sweet potato with pecans and brown sugar, I the house specialty: a Sweet Corn Tamale with chicken, covered in a mild tomato sauce, sweet corn, rice and just plain good. As we walked out of the facility,
I may have run into a long-lost twin brother – look at picture, me on the right.
We then walked around the Plaza with its many nice stores.
