Started with a breakfast at The River, Piero’s Acqua Plaza Café. We asked to be seated in the open air portion. It actually is a glass enclosed seating area alongside the pretend river. Shirleen ordered basted eggs with red skinned potatoes and orange juice. They were a week ahead of themselves, they crucified the eggs – hard and poached – don’t go there. I had three pancakes with Maple syrup.
Later we started down town to buy tickets for The Follies in Palm Springs. Remember this town is different and they relish the thought. We were able to get discount tickets for Tuesday matinee.
Now back down the city to meet with our Gourmet Garden friends, Rita and Mike. We are to meet them for lunch at the Rock Garden Café. What a nice stop, open air sheltered from the wind and sun. We sat there for a couple hours and talked about the town. Lunch went well and I would go there again, forgot what we ate, will have to take notes. They invited us to their rented condo. What a nice area, flowers lining the street, lawns well groomed and well kept. The studio was on the first floor and outside the gate to the pool. A relaxing place to be. They were leaving for home the next morning so we took off so they could pack the car.
We thought we would just go out for a appetizer this evening. Well, the best laid plans by man fell apart again. Across the street was Bing Crosby’s Restaurant and Piano Bar, neat website: http://www.bingcrosbysrestaurant.com/. A detour from the first thought. We found the front door, a Lamborghini convertible was parked close to the front door – I forgot the camera. Upon entering we were told it was open seating and she pointed out that we could go in front of the piano. Well we saw the dinner seating area and sat down, well we should have sat in the bar. The matri’d came over and explained our options. I mentioned I hope we could eat before we went back to Minnesota. She brought both menus and told us to see what option we wanted to pursue. Out went the appetizer and in came a meal. We saw Bing’s Signature Dish and decided to split it. We ask if we could be seated here and split an order. Yes, we could and told her our thought and she suggested the Winter Prix Fixe Menu version, no plate charge and you get a salad and dessert. For the salad we ordered The Wedge – chilled iceberg lettuce, blue cheese, bacon pieces, and roasted tomatoes, the Filet Mignon was grilled and sauced with a Black Truffle Demi-Glace, braised Haricot Vert, Spinach, green beans, and garlic mashed potato wrapped in a home made potato chip (Cannelloni). We followed it with a berry laced, black berries, raspberries and strawberries, laced with Grand Marnier in a Crème Brule. Had we just asked for the Filet it would have cost 75 cents less, thank goodness the waitress mentioned this option. Steak was prepared just right and tasted absolutely delicious. The wine was a house cab, Ammilo. What was nice is that the service was great, service items were removed from Shirleen first then I; and he removed the dinner plates at the same time, not mine when I was done. They waited till both completed our meals.
